As a professional in the industry, Joe Nugent has personally completed transactions totaling over 1 billion dollars. Since 2000, he has specialized in REITs, 1031 and DST real estate programs.

Prior to establishing Effective 1031 Planning, Mr. Nugent was a Divisional and Sr. Vice President with various industry leading Real Estate and Realty Finance companies. He was responsible for sales and education of financial advisors and the general public as pertained to investing in Commercial Real Estate and Commercial Real Estate Debt.

He has over 16 years of experience and holds a Life and Health Insurance License as well as Series 7, 6, 24 and 63 Licenses.

About Jay Dobbs

Jay  Dobbs brings 21 years of financial experience, including 16 years raising capital for securitized real estate investments.

Prior to Effective 1031 Planning, Jay served as Divisional Vice President of Colony NorthStar Securities, LLC and previously as First Vice President with Inland Securities where his duties included wholesale distribution for the East Coast.

He holds his FINRA Series 7, 24 and 63 licenses and received a degree in Business Management from the University of Alabama.

About Laurie Slaugh

Director of Marketing


Laurie serves as the firm’s marketing, business development and project director. She is responsible for planning, developing and implementing Effective 1031 Planning’s marketing and business strategies, communications, as well as media, public and client relations activities. She coordinates Effective 1031 Planning’s Website, Social Media presence, all print and electronic materials as well as client events.

Laurie is an active volunteer with her Church, and serves on the PTA for Riverside Elementary. Her passions are gardening, cooking, and travel.
